10,000 Hours rule

Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers mention this. He said, a person need 10,000 hours of practice to become expert. Be it sports, music, or something others. But the answer to it is 10,000 hours.

Parents, coaches and players need to understand this when the goal is to become the best in tennis. A 10,000 hours can be 10,000,000 balls hit. How to get that number?

It is equal to 10 years of playing for 3 hours per day everyday. When a kid starts to play at 7 years old, using this calculation, he or she should be an expert by 17 years old. But is it possible to train 3 hours per day for 7-9 years old? No, but players should compensate that hours when the age is 12 or 13 years old and older.

There is no magic pills or potion for success in tennis. The work has to be done. To be successful in tennis, a player should focus on getting the hours and hitting more balls in the court. It is not going to happen when players involved in too many activities at school. Remember, there will be no all rounders in tennis and other sports. Focus on tennis if you really need the players to be better.

There are a lot more factors in success. But the most basic one is the hours you spend in tennis court and the amount of balls that a player hits. Get that numbers increase and be consistent in doing whats right.

Remember to find a place where courts and coaches are always available. The one thing that comes to the good part in Kangar Perlis tennis.
